Overview
Plain-language summary, compiled from the cited regulatory records
Fosinopril is an active pharmaceutical ingredient classified as an Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitor [1]. This drug class works by affecting a specific pathway in the body that leads to blood vessel relaxation and reduced salt and water retention [1].
Fosinopril sodium tablets are approved for treating high blood pressure (hypertension) [1]. They can be used as a standalone treatment or in combination with diuretic medications [1]. Additionally, fosinopril sodium is indicated for managing heart failure when used alongside standard treatments, which may include diuretics and digitalis [1].
This medication is available under various brand names [1].

INDICATIONS AND USAGE
Fosinopril sodium tablets are indicated for the treatment of hypertension. They may be used alone or in combination with thiazide diuretics. Fosinopril sodium tablets are indicated in the management of heart failure as adjunctive therapy when added to conventional therapy including diuretics with or without digitalis (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION ).
In using fosinopril sodium, consideration should be given to the fact that another angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, captopril, has caused agranulocytosis, particularly in patients with renal impairment or collagen-vascular disease.
Available data are insufficient to show that fosinopril sodium does not have a similar risk (see WARNINGS ). In considering use of fosinopril sodium, it should be noted that in controlled trials ACE inhibitors have an effect on blood pressure that is less in black patients than in non-blacks.
