Losartan is indicated in: - Treatment of essential hypertension in adults and in children and adolescents 6-18 years of age. 1) - Treatment of chronic heart failure in adult patients, when treatment with ACE inhibitors is not considered suitable due to incompatibility, especially cough, or contraindication.
Patients with heart failure who have stabilised with an ACE inhibitor should not be switched to losartan. The patients should have a left ventricular ejection fraction ≤ 40% and should be stabilised under the treatment of chronic heart failure.

1 INDICATIONS AND USAGE Losartan potassium tablets are an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) indicated for: • Treatment of hypertension, to lower blood pressure in adults and children greater than 6 years old. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events, primarily strokes and myocardial infarctions.
1) • Reduction of the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy. There is evidence that this benefit does not apply to Black patients. 2) • Treatment of diabetic nephropathy with an elevated serum creatinine and proteinuria in patients with type 2 diabetes and a history of hypertension.
1 Hypertension Losartan potassium tablets are indicated for the treatment of hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older, to lower blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure lowers the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular (CV) events, primarily strokes and myocardial infarction.

Hypertension:
LOSARTAN (losartan potassium tablets) is indicated for: • the treatment of essential hypertension • in patients with essential hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy (see 14 CLINICAL TRIALS) LOSARTAN may be used alone or concomitantly with thiazide diuretics.
A great majority of patients with severe hypertension in controlled clinical trials required combination therapy. Losartan potassium tablets has been used concomitantly with beta- blockers and calcium channel blockers, but the data on such use are limited.
1 Pediatrics Pediatrics (6-16 years of age): Antihypertensive effects of losartan potassium tablets have been demonstrated in hypertensive pediatric patients aged 6 to 16 years. Use of losartan potassium tablets in these age groups is supported by evidence from adequate and well-controlled studies of losartan potassium tablets in pediatric patients (see
