Uses
TYKERB (lapatinib tablets) is indicated for: In combination with capecitabine, for the treatment of patients with metastatic breast cancer whose tumours overexpress ErbB2 (HER2). Patients should have progressed on taxanes and anthracycline before starting this therapy.
In addition, patients should have progressed on prior trastuzumab therapy in the metastatic setting. Approval is based on the surrogate endpoint, time to progression, without demonstration of an overall survival advantage or palliation due to therapy (see 14, CLINICAL TRIALS).
In combination with letrozole for the treatment of post-menopausal patients with hormone receptor positive metastatic breast cancer, whose tumours overexpress the ErbB2 (HER2) receptor, and who are suitable for endocrine therapy.
Approval was based on progression free survival, without demonstrating an overall survival advantage or quality of life benefit. 1 Pediatrics (< 18 years of age) No data are available to Health Canada; therefore, Health Canada has not authorized an indication for pediatric use.
