2 CONTRAINDICATIONS Auro-Indomethacin is contraindicated in:  the peri-operative setting of coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). Although indomethacin has NOT been studied in this patient population, a selective COX-2 inhibitor NSAID studied in such a setting has led to an increased incidence of cardiovascular /thromboembolic events, deep surgical infections and sternal wound complications.

1 Adverse Drug Reaction Overview The most common adverse reactions encountered with NSAIDs are gastrointestinal, of which peptic ulcer, with or without bleeding, is the most severe. Fatalities have occurred on occasion, particularly in the elderly.

2 Clinical Trial Adverse Drug Reactions The adverse reactions for indomethacin capsules listed in the following table have been arranged into two groups: (1) incidence greater than 1%; and (2) incidence less than 1%. The incidence for group (1) was obtained from 33 double-blind controlled clinical trials reported in the literature (1,092 patients).

The incidence for group (2) was based on reports in clinical trials, in the literature, and on voluntary reports since marketing. The probability of a causal relationship exists between indomethacin and these adverse reactions, some of which have been reported only rarely.

1 Pediatrics Pediatrics (< 18 years of age): Safety and efficacy have not been established in the pediatric population. In a few cases of severe juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, where indomethacin capsules was given along with other drugs, severe reactions, including fatalities, were reported.
